Phil Merrifield
Phil is a Design Producer at Sea. He has a first class degree in 3D Design from University College Falmouth, where he focused primarily on solving problems within the medical field using a user-centred approach.
Throughout his degree, he doubled up as an intern extraordinaire on many design projects for Dott Cornwall and Cornwall Design Season - gaining hugely valuable experience within a business environment.
Whilst at Sea, Phil has worked on projects to help improve services for people affected by redundancy and unemployment, people and carers affected by dementia and young entrepreneurs wanting to start their own business.
Phil is particularly interested in the design process and following a simple (logical) approach to finding solutions. He believes that a great solution can always be found, no matter how challenging the issue appears, by involving the right people in the process.
He is a methodical design researcher. He recognises that designers should not try to know everything or attempt to be experts, but should instead should focus on harnessing the creativity and information of others to shape solutions. In using these co-production values, Phil is articulate, persuasive and deeply empathetic.
